Gauntlet III – The Final Quest

Developed 1993 for Software Creations

“Gauntlet III: The Final Quest” for the Commodore 64 is the third entry in the Gauntlet series, developed by Tengen and released in 1991. Unlike the first two games, which featured a top-down perspective, Gauntlet III switched to an isometric view, significantly changing the gameplay dynamics. This shift in perspective allowed for a more complex presentation of the environments but was a major departure from the traditional Gauntlet format.

The game maintained some of the core elements of the Gauntlet series: players still navigated through dungeons, battling waves of enemies and finding keys to open doors. However, the isometric layout made movement and combat feel slower and more methodical compared to the fast-paced action of its predecessors. Players could choose between four characters, each with unique abilities: Thor (the warrior), Thyra (the valkyrie), Merlin (the wizard), and Questor (the elf), all returning from the earlier games.
